Now that the Holiday lights are up, this is the time to be proactive in preventing frozen pipes and the damage it can cause for your business. And the damage can be a devesting interruption, as one local Charlottesville business discovered last winter. Click here for before and after photos. Usually, a frozen pipe will rupture from the pressure build up between the water source and an ice blockage.
Tips for preventing frozen pipes include:
- Insulate your building, using caulking and weatherstripping, to keep cold air from reaching wall cavities such as crawl spaces, roof spaces/ceilings, and basements.
- Cover pipes with insulated wrapping or sleeves.
- Drip water from faucets during extreme freezing weather conditions, to keep the water circulating.
- Have a back up power/heating source to keep inside temperatures above freezing.
- Get an Emergency Ready Profile (ERP) appointment scheduled for FREE!! Should a pipe burst and flood your business, an ERP will save valuable time to mitigate the emergency and speed up the cleanup and recovery process.
