Causes of Commercial Fires

We checked in with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) about the common causes of fires in commercial properties. Surprisingly, most fires that require firefighters to respond occur in office buildings rather than manufacturing/industrial properties, government/military buildings, or even restaurants (where, perhaps, firefighters are just not called).

Major causes are:

  • Cooking equipment (restaurants and employee kitchens) –- most common, but they cause – by far -- the least amount of property damage
  • Electrical equipment, including lighting
  • Heating
  • Arson (highest amount of property damage)
  • Smoking
  • Exposure (wildfires, fires in nearby buildings…)
  • Electronic or related office equipment

Whatever the cause, we are in business to make the damage “Like it never even happened.”
