Sprinkler Systems Prevent Fires From Spreading

An NFPA publication shares details about selected motel and hotel fires and reports that many fires were contained due to sprinkler systems activating in the rooms where the fires started. For instance, in Nevada, a fire started when several 9-volt batteries inside a suitcase in a hotel room overheated and started a fire that was extinguished when the room’s single sprinkler activated. The report relates that the building, valued at $1.75 million, sustained approximately $15,000 to $20,000 in damage. Damage to its contents was estimated at $3,000, and there were no injuries.
