North Garden Home Damaged by Summer Downpour?
7/5/2023 (Permalink)
The rainiest season in North Garden is summer, and storms can range from mild showers to torrential downpours. Our local Charlottesville team is on call and ready to respond to storm damage emergencies day and night, and we typically arrive onsite within four hours of your call for help. When heavy rain falls, streams and culverts can become overloaded, and low-lying areas can flood. Here are some flood safety tips from the National Weather Service:
River Flood and Flash Flood Safety Rules
- During periods of heavy rains, stay away from flood-prone areas such as stream beds, drainage ditches, and culverts
- Move to higher ground if flooding threatens your area
- If you live or work in flood-prone areas, remain alert during periods of heavy rain
- Be especially cautious at night as it is harder to recognize flood dangers
- Never drive your car into any water of unknown depth. Remember: Turn Around Don’t Drown!
- If your vehicle stalls, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground
Major Flooding
Extensive inundation of structures and roads. Significant evacuations of people and or transfer of property to higher elevations.
Moderate Flooding
Some inundation of structures and roads near the stream. Some evacuations of people and or transfer of property to higher elevations.
Minor Flooding
Minimal or no property damage, but possibly some public threat (e.g., inundation of roads).
